March 03. 2023

On March 07.2023 at 17:00 in the Department of Pharmacology of the Medical University of Poznań, another meeting of Students Pharmacology Science

Club (PUMS) members was held, during which the next Speakers - students of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Pharmacy (PUMS):

Weronika Jarczak and Konrad Lewandowski

- gave subsequent presentations in the series aimed at bringing closer and systematizing the progress of clinical trials (with particular emphasis on data from meta-

analyses of their effects on a potentially new pharmacological application of two more representatives of antiepileptic drugs - valproic acid and levetiracetam.

Levetiracetam is an antiepileptic drug that binds to synaptic vesicle protein 2A. Its off-label use has been and continues to be extensively studied. Numerous

studies prove that it has potential, for example, in migraine prevention or improvement of cognitive functions.

Prevention and therapy of migraine attacks or the potential in the treatment of epilepsy, dementia, and, among others, the neuroprotective potential of valproic acid

in light of the latest data from meta-analyses and case-study reports were also presented to the audience in a very concise and reliable way.

Of course, a lively discussion at the end of the meeting also occurred.

CONGRATULATIONS to the speakers! :)

clinical trials) on another two representatives of the new pharmacological potential of selected antiepileptic drugs topiramate, and zonisamide.

Students in a very concise and reliable way presented to the audience the latest data proving the effectiveness of new pharmacological applications

of the above drugs, not omitting data indicating the limitations of the evidentiary value of observations during

clinical trials.
